Did you know that every year, the federal government is allocating around 150 billion dollars for grant programs? This amount of money is for businesses and individuals who apply. These grants can help small corporations, students who need help with tuition fees, and individuals who need help making ends meet every month.

One would think that because these grants are offered to everyone, this amount of money always gets doled out every year. However, you’d be surprised to know that much of this amount does not get disseminated because of lack of information about these grants. Some businesses and individuals find it difficult to locate grants, and more find it tricky to apply.

The federal government has a website, Grants.gov, and you can simply visit this site if you want to know which grants you can apply for. Now, I need not tell you that this could be your ticket to a much better life, a career or a college course. Applying for a grant is definitely a step in the right direction. However, you should know that there are other places that provide a list of grants available. Most federal offices have a copy of this list, and you need only to ask.

When looking for Government Grants, you can use the internet. There may be places online that provide you with all the information you need about grants and how to apply for them. Here’s a tip. If you’re using a search engine, add another description for your original search term, i.e. “grants for single mothers”. It’s better to wrap the keywords with quotation marks so that you get the best results.

If you still cannot find a website that lists all the grants available to you, try going to government affiliated websites, or government-run sites like cfda.gov.  The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance is a good webpage to browse if you’re looking for more information about government funding. A lot of related government grant programs will come up. There is another government-run website that may help you look for grants. It’s firstgov.gov.

Some individuals have come up with commercial products that make available the private databases of grant opportunities. Usually, they charge a small amount for the right to browse the list. It’s up to you if you’d rather go for the free option, but if services like these help you find the grant that you are searching for, then they might be worth the money.

After you’ve located a promising opportunity, the next step is to contact the funding organization and ask about the grant. Make sure to verify some details and describe the way you found out about their website. Many of these organizations don’t advertise, so telling them about how you found them might help with their information dissemination. Also, find out if the grant information you have is updated. They may have changed their terms and requirements, so ask about these when you contact them.
